Daily News Briefing
Generate a daily plain-text news digest formatted for WeChat group sharing.
When to Use
- User asks for today's/yesterday's news briefing
- Morning automation triggers daily news generation
- User says "今天有什么新闻" / "整理昨天新闻" / "新闻简报"
Workflow
Step 1: Determine Dates
The output date line must show today's date. Use date +%Y-%m-%d for today.
Also calculate yesterday's date with date -d "yesterday" +%Y-%m-%d — this is used alongside today for news search coverage (see Step 2).
Determine the lunar calendar date for today by searching web for "YYYY年M月D日 农历".
Step 2: Search for News
Search 4 categories in parallel using WebSearch with topic: "news". Cover both yesterday and today by including both "昨日" and "今日" in each query, plus the specific dates from Step 1:
- 国内要闻 — query: "国内要闻 昨日 今日 重要新闻 民生 YYYY-MM-DD"
- 国际动态 — query: "国际新闻 昨日 今日 头条 YYYY-MM-DD"
- 财经金融 — query: "财经新闻 昨日 今日 要闻 股市 YYYY-MM-DD"
- 科技互联网 — query: "科技新闻 昨日 今日 互联网 AI YYYY-MM-DD"
Note: 社会民生 is merged into 国内要闻 search. No separate 社会民生 category.
When today has little news (e.g. early morning), yesterday's news fills the gap naturally. Aim for the freshest content available.
Step 3: Select and Filter
- Deduplicate near-identical stories
- Keep only substantive news, skip trivial/gossip
- Selection targets:
- 国内要闻: 4 items (includes 社会民生 news)
- 国际动态: 4 items
- 财经金融: 4 items
- 科技互联网: 4 items
- Total: 16 items
Step 4: Format Output
Critical: Use PURE PLAIN TEXT. No Markdown formatting (bold, italic, etc.).
WeChat personal chat does not render Markdown, and ** markers must be manually deleted when copy-pasting.

Formatting rules:
- Items within same category: consecutive, NO blank line between them
- After category header: one blank line, then numbered items
- After last item of a category: one blank line, then next category header
- After category body and before category header: exactly one blank line
- After last news item: no trailing blank lines or footer
- Pure plain text: no bold, no markdown, no source attribution
Step 5: Save and Deliver
Save to the workspace output directory as news-briefing-YYYY-MM-DD.md.
If running as automation, use: [workspace]/.workbuddy/output/news-briefing-YYYY-MM-DD.md
After saving, tell the user the file is ready for copy-paste to WeChat.
Output Rules
- Tone: Professional, factual, neutral
- Language: Chinese (Simplified)
- Per item: One line, ≤35 characters total
- Total items: 16 (4 per category)
- Format: Pure plain text, zero Markdown
- Layout: Date -> Categories (国内/国际/财经/科技)
- No greeting line: Do NOT include "早上好" or similar greetings
- No footer line: Do NOT include "—— 以上为今日新闻简报"
Important
- Verify date correctness — output date line must be today, news coverage spans yesterday + today
- Prioritize authoritative Chinese sources (新华社, 人民日报, 财新, 澎湃, 36氪 etc.)
- Political-neutral, avoid sensitive topics
- No unverified rumors or speculation
- If a major event dominates, allocate up to 2 related items
